Dead Alive is:
- Count Scapula – Vocals
- Manthing – Guitars
Risen out of the dark heart of Nashville, Tennessee – Dead Alive is the metal brainchild of the band’s skeletal corpse paint-wearing frontman, “Count Scapula.” Inspired by cult classic horror movies and the metal culture surrounding the once underground bands of the 70s and 80s, the Count orchestrated their 8-song debut LP around the themes and imagery of the skeleton monster.
Dead Alive formed initially in 2015 after the Count departed from playing guitar with a local rock band on his way to Illinois for college. The Count and his co-guitarist from that band “Manthing” wanted to make metal music “you could feel in your bones,” writing an early draft of the album’s 2nd track.
It wouldn’t be until 2017, when the Count returned to Nashville, that he and Manthing completed the original 7 demo tracks of Rise of the Skeleton Army; and not until 2020 when the Count found the two musicians for Dead Alive’s initial lineup, “Soul Taker” and “V”, and recorded the album at the studio, Wired for Sound, that fall.
The debut album, Rise of the Skeleton Army, released October 29th, 2021 and peaked at number 51 on Apple’s Breaking Metal playlist that weekend. Unfortunately due to the horrors of life and responsibility The Count was unable to effectively promote and lead Dead Alive while he was studying the dark arts of music business at his local Miskatonic University and the band was kept underground. Even though activity was minimal, the band has enjoyed the small successes from the very passionate global metal community who have unearthed Dead Alive’s catalog.
With the Count officially graduated, plans are being set in motion to take Nashville by storm and turn Nashville into Thrash-ville – as well as producing Dead Alive’s follow-up album.
