For the fans of the ever-evolving musical genre of metal, there is a bond and a common understanding from the rush of being able to feel and embrace every human emotion at once in a way that other musical mediums can’t deliver. Dickson-based Embodiment, headed by frontman Michael Grim, has been delivering that melodic and rhythmic seismic symphony to adoring audiences for three decades, and judging by Saturday’s turnout, this eruption of talent shows no signs of abating.
Roughly 220 metal fans packed out Events on Main in historic downtown Dickson for Embodiment’s 30th Anniversary show on Nov. 16. Sponsored by New Wave Hobbies, Embodiment rocked out to an enthusiastic crowd which spontaneously formed a mosh pit where metal devotees were free to bang their heads to their hearts’ content. Area bands Chunder, CreekDevil and Dead Alive opened for Embodiment, each playing around 30-minute-long sets. Following the concert, Eddie Ford performed an acoustic set at the after-party held at New Wave Hobbies.

Dead Alive, with lead singer Count Scapula, finds its foundational sound in thrash metal, which, according to the Count, found its origins in the Bay area in the early 80s. All of our songs are about monsters, but it’s also the exploration of human nature, the human condition kind of stuff. There’s more melancholic songs or more intense songs. Those are going to pull from different styles. There’s a couple of terms that have been thrown around for us, like horror thrash, horror metal, because there is a horror punk influence for us with The Misfits,” he said.
